Polish Nobel Prize Winners Route

 

Route: Krakow – Oblegorek – Kielce – Warszawa – Gdansk – Gdynia – Sopot

 

Day 1

arrival to Krakow on your own. Krakow is the second largest city in Poland and the capital of Malopolska region. In the history Krakow was the capital of Poland. Free time for leisure. Krakow is related to Polish Nobel Prize winners of literature such as Wislawa Szymborska and Czeslaw Milosz. Wislawa Szymborska lived, worked and died here – her grave is located in famous Rakowicki Cemetery. Overnight stay in Krakow.

Day 2:

breakfast. The city break of Krakow starts with meeting your local guide and then stroll around the Market Square – one of the biggest in Europe, with the famous Cloth Hall (13th century) and Saint Mary’s Church with the Wit Stwosz beautiful gothic altar inside. After that, we will visit Wawel Royal Castle with the Royal Cathedral and Royal Apartments. This is the place of great importance for the Polish people and the state in general. It was the residence of Polish kings, many important historic events took place there. In the Royal Cathedral there is a most known bell in Poland – Zygmunt’s Bell, as well as burial site in the St. Leonard’s crypt with many tombs of kings. Overnight stay.

Day 3:

breakfast. We will start the day from visiting the Jagiellonian University area with Collegium Maius with gothic arcades, expanded in renaissance style. It’s the second oldest university in Central Europe. After that, National Museum with thousands of pieces of art, made or painted by the most famous Polish artists, painters and sculptors. Then, we see imitation of the building of Big Opera in Paris – the Juliusz Slowacki Theatre. For the last stop, we can see Kazimierz –  a unique former Jewish district. Overnight stay in Krakow.

Day 4:

breakfast. Departure from Krakow to Oblegorek near Kielce city, located in the region of Swietokrzyskie Mountains. In Oblegorek we will visit the Museum of Henryk Sienkiewicz – famous polish writer, the Nobel Prize winner of literature thanks to his the most known work titled “Quo Vadis”. The museum is situated in the summer residence of Sienkiewicz family, surrounded by the forest. The exhibition of interior with historical furniture shows the writer’s lifestyle. Visitors can see where Sienkiewicz was writing his works and how he lived. Transfer to Kielce. Stroll around the city, during which we will see the Old Town Square, Old Town Hall and The Baroque Palace of Krakow Bishops. Overnight stay in Kielce.

Day 5:

breakfast. Departure from Kielce to Warszawa – the capital city and also political, economic, cultural centre of Poland. After arrival meeting with our local guide. The sightseeing of Warszawa starts with a stroll around the Old Town – fully reconstructed after WW2, placed in UNESCO World Heritage List as a fine example of a full reconstruction with some authentic fragments. Visiting the Royal Castle – the symbol of Polish statehood, with its history dating back to the 13th century, where many important historic events took place. Next visiting the Lazienki Palace – one of the most beautiful parks in Europe. During a short, relaxing walk, we can see there the most famous building of the complex, the monumental Palace on the Water (which was the private residence of the Polish kings). Overnight stay in Warszawa.

Day 6:

breakfast. The second day of city break around Warszawa. Warszawa is related to Polish Nobel Prize winner of science – famous scientist Maria Sklodowska-Curie, who was awarded in physics and chemistry. During the day we will visit The Maria Sklodowska-Curie Museum – showing the life, work and achievements such as discovering the polonium and radium. Afterwards stroll around city. Visiting the Powazkowski Cemetery – one of the most important graveyards in Poland, where are buried many famous people such as Wladyslaw Reymont – winner of Nobel Prize of literature. Next is Palace of Culture and Science – a gift from  our former „friend”, the Soviet Union. We can see the magnificent view of the city from the terrace located on the 30th floor of the highest building in Poland. Overnight stay in Warszawa.

 

 

 

Day 7:

breakfast. Drive from Warsaw to Gdansk – one of the cities from the Tricity. After arrival a short, introductory walk around the Old Town. Gdansk is the city in Northern Poland, associated with Lech Walesa – politicians, former president of Poland, and winner of Nobel Peace Prize, who established the “Solidarity” movement. Overnight stay in Gdansk.

Day 8:

our city break starts in Gdansk, with a stroll around the Town Square – where we can see the Golden Gate, Main Town Hall, the Fountain of Neptune – one of the Gdansk’s biggest landmarks, Dluga Street, the famous Artus Court Hall built in 1481 as a meeting place for wealthy burghers, treadwheel wooden crane called “Zuraw” – another symbol of the city. Next, we see the biggest brick building in Europe – the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, founded in 1342, large enough for 25000 faithful, with beautiful gothic sculptures and monumental Memling’s. After a short break, we take a look into the place where the “Solidarity” movement was founded – the Gdansk Shipyard. Overnight stay.

Day 9:

breakfast. Today we will visit Gdynia and Sopot – two other cities that form the Tricity. In Gdynia,  we can see two ships – Dar Pomorza and ORP Blyskawica, and after that, we visit the harbour of Gdynia. Finally, we visit Sopot – one of the most famous SPA resort in Poland. A short walk through the popular (among tourists) street – Bohaterow Monte Cassino, with the longest in Poland wooden pier at the end of that street. Overnight stay in Gdansk.

breakfast and departure from Gdansk to your country.
