Marian Trail – 6 days

Route: Krakow – Ludzmierz – Zakopane – Kalwaria Zebrzydowska – Piekary Slaskie – Bardo Slaskie – Wambierzyce – Czestochowa

Day 1

Arrival in Krakow. Accommodation in the hotel. Short city-tour around the Old Town with the most important churches in Krakow – Church of Our Lady of the Assumption (well known as Mariacki Church), which has been a basilica since 1963. Leisure time. Overnight stay.

Day 2

Breakfast and checking-out. Transfer to Ludzmierz and visit in the oldest catholic parish in Podhale region – the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary which has been running since XIII century. Later, transfer to Zakopane – Krzeptowki and visiting sanctuary  of Our Lady of Fatima, which is strongly connected with Pope John Paul II. It was created as a form of gratitude for saving Pope’s life, after unsuccesful assasination attempt on his life in 1981. Overnight stay.

Day 3

Breakfast and checking out, followed by transfer to Kalwaria Zebrzydowska. Our next stop is not only the one of the most frequently visited pilgrimage centres in Poland, but also  – with its interesting landscape and architecture – Kalwaria makes itself an important tourist destination because of its inscription to the UNESCO World Heritage List. Sanctuary – established in the XVII century – intented to represent the landscape of Jerusalem at the Jesus Christ’s time. We can find there series of symbolic places of worship relating to the Passion of Jesus Christ and the life of the Virgin Mary. After that, transfer to Piekary Slaskie and visit in the most important basilica for people of Silesia – the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Piekary. It is the biggest Marian pilgrim centre in Silesia, and the second biggest in Poland. Its tradition reaches 1676 and is the most known from its miraculous painting of Madonna. Overnight stay.

Day 4

Breakfast and checking out. After breakfast, we take direction to Bardo Slaskie. There, we visit Sanctuary of Our Lady the Guardian of Faith, dated back to the end of 16th century, with the water spring (believed to have healing powers) and less than 50 cm tall, wooden, miraculous statue of the Virgin Mary. It is the oldest wooden statue in the Lower Silesia. In the afternoon, we drive to Wambierzyce and make a visit to the Church of Birth of Blessed Virgin Mary, also known as a Sanctuary of the Virgin Mary, the Queen of Families. Overnight stay.

Day 5

Breakfast and checking out. Transfer to Czestochowa. The city of Częstochowa is very often called as a spiritual capital of Poland. Visiting the most famous and most important Marian sanctuary in Poland – Jasna Góra, with its Sanctuary of Our Lady of Jasna Gora. It is believed that the miraculous painting of Black Madonna – that is placed in the Paulins monastery – was painted by Luke the Evangelist  himself. Pope John Paul II visited that holy place many times, as well as Pope Benedict XVI. After that, transfer to the hotel and accommodation. Overnight stay.

Day 6

Breakfast and checking-out. Transfer to the Krakow airport.
